Relaxation and therapeutic manual therapies are not mutually exclusive! You can and should be able to experience a deep sense of relaxation, during a beneficially therapeutic session. 1.5 hour session minimum to allow several areas/issues to be addressed. (i.e. Plantar fasciitis, hip/lower back & shoulder pain). Passive stretching may be incorpated into a session, along with recommendations for active stretching @ home, work or while traveling.
Many clients/patients are pleasantly surprised when a lighter focused touch is just as effective, if not more so, than so called, "deep tissue" massage. You should never leave a manual therapy session in more pain or discomfort than when you arrived. That being said, if you are looking for "deep tissue' work just for the sake of feeling "something," Integrative Massage Therapy is probably not for you.
