About
Aloha, I am Brandon Boyd, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), WA state license number MA60206550, Idaho Massage license MAS-4963. I began my journey as a professional massage therapist in June 2003 when I attended the Idaho School of Massage Therapy in Boise Idaho. I took their 250 hour begginers massage course during my summer break with the Idea that massage would be a great side gig while pursuing an Engineering degree at The College of Southern Idaho. After completion of that program, l operated Helping Hands Mobile Massage in the Burley/Twin Falls area of southern Idaho. In May of 2005 I moved to Kennewick in Washington State.
In 2006 I attended Ancient Arts Massage School and Clinic in Richland WA for an additional 1000 hours of training. At that time, this was required to obtain a Washington State massage license. Upon completion I went back into to my first career as an aircraft mechanic.
In 2011 I decided to finaly get my washington massage license and then practiced massage full time till 2024. I worked under the co-operative brand of Touch Wellness Center from 2011 till the end of 2013. During the summer of 2013 I met Kim and Jim Heartley at an AMTA massage conference where I attended their 4 hour introduction to Lomi Lomi. I felt like Kim and Jim were showing me how to give the massage I had spent the last 10 years trying to figure out how to give!
In January 2014 I hired on at Elements in Richland where I thrived for nine years, getting to work in every role Elements had to offer, Therapist, Lead Therapist, Wellness Member Associate (front desk) and even as Studio Manager. During these nine years I attended hundreds of hours of continuing education in Lomilomi as well as getting the opportunity to teach. I have trained new hires, designed continuing education classes and taught them at several Elements studios. I have substitute taught and been guest instructor at local massage schools.
I have also studied various forms of talk therapy such as Cognative Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Peer-Counseling and Conversational Hypnotherapy; and I incorporate various aspects of these into my treatment sessions.
In 2023 I separated from Elements, Kim and Jim retired and they passed the art and knowledge of their teaching on to myself and three others. As of today, I have gone back into my first career of aviation maintenance, relocated to Coeur d'Alene Idaho and continue to offer my service and teachings on the weekends.
There is a saying in Hawai'i, "ʻAʻole mai ke kula hoʻokahi ka ʻike a pau" (Not all knowledge comes from one school).
My lomilomi lineage: (who I learned from and who they learned from)
-I have been Influenced (to mean indirect leaning, youtube, books, etc.) by Uncle Harry Uhane Jim and Serge Kahili King who learned from (->) Wana kahili & M'Bala.
- Kumu Kim and Jim Heartly (Heartspire lomilomi school) -> Uncle Harry Uhane Jim & Aunti Margret Machado & Influenced by Serge Kahli King.
-Kumu Jeana Iwalani Naluai (Ho'omana Spa and lomilomi school) -> Aunti Mahilani Poe Poe & Auntie Margret Machado & Maka'ala Yates (an apprentice of Aunti Margret) & Rebecca Slavin (who was influenced by Abraham Kawai) & Papa Sylsveser Kepelino & Aunti Mary Fragas.
Fees/Rates
Operating by 'Joyful Value Exchange' ( By-JoVE! ) Which in essence means all prices are negotiable for my work. I ask clients to pay me an amount that feels good and right and fair to them. An amount that they can afford, and that they can give joyfully. The same request applies to individuals and groups alike. Massage therapy provides my livelihood, and I trust the people I work with to honor this and provide the support that makes it possible for me to continue offering my services.
Why then do I list a number along with my offerings? This is intended to be a guide as to what the going rate is and to help you decide what you think is fair. The going rate in my area for massage service is $85 per 1 hour at my location, $120 per 1 hour at you location and $30 per hour for a group continuing education class, with a minimum of 6 students.
Why?
I feel called to this way of working in the world as a way of serving life. The society we live in now fosters a culture of consumption, based on scarcity, while pretending the world has infinite resources. I believe that the society of the future, will be the reverse: Nurturing a culture of sharing, based on abundance, while recognizing nature's limitations.
By calling it a "Joyful Value Exchange," I recognize that I am engaging in direct reciprocity for money rather than purely gifting with no thought of return.
How Should you pay?
Cash is king! I also accept checks and payments through the Venmo and PayPal. ByJoVE also opens the door to bartering, do you make things or provide a service? I might be willing to trade!
What to expect
My home studio is a single room in my house. I have cats, I keep my massage room clean and professionally neat but if you have a cat allergy it would be best if I come to you. We can sip tea or coffee while we 'talk story' (intake) so I know how best I can be of service.
I use what is known as a top drape. This is a method of keeping all of your body covered with a sheet and blanket except for the parts I am working on. This is done to protect your modesty and keep you comfortably warm at all times. This top sheet method of draping allows you as the client to disrobe completely (or to your comfort level) and frees me to utilize oil or lotion to get the best glide or friction upon your skin for the technique I am using without worry of soiling your garments unnecessarily.
Some techniques I do can be applied while you are fully clothed or over top of the top drape. Your comfort is paramount and if anything feels uncomfortable to you, you have to tell me that you don't like what I am doing. Otherwise I will not know that It needs to change for you to be comfortable.
My Couples Massage is where I teach you and your partner the basics so you can share lomilomi together at home. I recommend three hours for this.
An Outcall is where I travel to your home. I bring my heated massage table, freshly cleaned sheets, blanket, Lotions & oils and music to you. I will arrive within 10 minutes of our scheduled time. Outcall sessions start at 90 minutes and do not account for time for set-up/tear-down. I only "charge" for hands on time. Please plan on me being at your place for two hours in total. I will clean up my equipment and any mess associated with it, leaving your home as it was when I arrived. (Including any furniture that needed to be moved.) What I require is a minimum of 6 foot by 10 foot clearing in your home with access to an electrical outlet (for the table warmer) and sink to wash my hands in.
What will you get?
You will get my time, my attention, and the collective sum of the thousands of hours of experience that I have gained in my 23+ years as a therapist.
