About
Jano Cohen Cohen teaches the Alexander Technique and T’ai Chi Ch’uan in Wynnewood, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. She was certified as a teacher by The Alexander Foundation of Philadelphia in 1990 and is a founding and teaching member of Alexander Technique International. Her approach to teaching is informed by her past experience as a dancer and choreographer, therapeutic masseuse, and time playing the violin and piano. She works with students of all ages and occupations but has a special love of assisting actors and musicians. She also shares her knowledge of how to recover from pain since she has successfully rehabilitated from multiple injuries as well as ankle and knee surgeries. She trained at The Alexander Foundation (aka The Alexander Alliance) and is a Certified Teaching Member of Alexander Technique International. She has been teaching lessons, classes and special workshops in the A.T. since 1988 to students of all ages and interests. Performers, athletes and people with chronic pain or tension often explore the A.T. This technique empowers students to notice excess tension and misalignment, learn to change their movement habits, and enjoy centering, grounding, breathing with ease, and moving with comfort and grace. Since 2005 Jano has been coaching actors and other theatre personnel at People’s Light and Theatre and other venues.
Since 1986 Jano has taught the short yang form of T’ai Chi Ch’uan under the tutelage of Maggie Newman, a senior student of Ch’eng Man Ch’ing. Classes are small and suitable for all ages. Gentle warm-ups and individualized instruction help all students practice this slow-moving meditation while respecting their own bodies’ needs and limitations.
