Hi there! My name is Courtney L. Kraeger. I'm the owner and operator at AWAKEN Life Coaching + Bodywork. Since 2015, AWAKEN has been offering Alternative Self-Care practices to Northern New York but we didn't start there.

 

Massage has always been an intuitive care-response for me. As a young child, my dad worked in a mill where he would stand on concrete all day long in steel toe boots. When he would come home, I would help him take off his boots and massage his feet. Doing this carried over into school life where I would massage my friends' shoulders during down-time like when we'd gather on the floor to watch movies. As a teenager, I wanted to be a Cosmetologist like my mother and entered the Cosmetology course at Howard G. Sackett Technical Center. Though I was good at hair, I didn't like it; however, I loved doing massage while offering manicures and pedicures. I got my license in Cosmetology but I did't go to work as a hairdresser. I chose to work at a local water park and, later on, a local mill until I figured out what I really wanted to do in life. While I worked in these other locations, my need to massage my peers to make them feel good continued on. It came to a point while I was working in the mill that I needed a change. I finally took the leap and decided to become a Licensed Massage Therapist. In 2013, I started the year-long program at Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage in Syracuse, New York; graduating as Salutatorian (only behind a med student) and earning my license at the beginning of 2014. Though massage has been a life-long passion of mine, it hasn't been the only one.

 

Energy Work arrived in my life around the same time I started massaging my dad's feet. My mom had learned about energy from her friend in Texas who was a Reiki Master and she taught me how to feel energy between our hands and from different types of rocks and minerals. Feeling the energy exchange between our hands became something of a game or pastime; especially between my mom and I. When my grandfather became ill from Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in 2006, my mom's friend came to New York to attune my parents as Reiki Masters so that they could (if nothing else) help my grandfather's transition so that he wouldn't feel the pain that is typically associated with Pancreatic Cancer. From our understanding and belief, it worked due to him only experiencing one day of pain just before his passing. I became so intrigued with energy work that I began making it my life's mission to understand it. After years of extensive research into and practice of energy work and the scientific findings (with so much more to go), I finished my Reiki Master degree in 2020 and started walking the path to gaining my PhD in Holistic Life Coaching from the University of Metaphysical Sciences where I am currently working on my Bachelors in Metaphysical Sciences.

 

Deep down at our core, we believe that:

• everyone is their own healer and should be.
• nature knows best.
• life is sacred. 
• in order to live our best life and contribute most to our communities, we must be sovereign.
• a happy life is a simple life.
